Changes to the Site

This is the first quarterly newsletter for the primaryview.org site. The site's look has changed a bit over the past year. Though still a graphically plain site—and I don't anticipate that this will ever change—at least the most egregious problems are now gone.

  • Large diagrams—those over about 650 pixels in width—are presented as a figure caption that links to a separate window. This will create some window clutter for you but horizontal scrolling should be eliminated for screens of 1024 pixels width or larger. Horizontal scrolling on 800 pixel width screens should be minimal. I hope that eventually either PNG or SVG graphics will have adequate browser support—that is, some ability to pan and zoom.
  • The site colors have been changed due to very polarized responses to the old color scheme.
  • The navigation area to the left of the site has been updated. The old Javascript was not compatible with Mozilla or with Internet Explorer on a Macintosh®. Also, a site search form and mailto link have been added.
  • The Javascript for the last modified date has been replaced with static text. Sometime in the last year my ISP must have done some software change that broke this script.

If you have problems with these or any other look-and-feel aspect of this site please email me at jartim@primaryview.org.

Upcoming Events

The Usability Professionals Association has its anual conference June 23-27, 2003 in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. They have, over the past few years, had interesting workshops on patterns and style guides. See www.upassoc.org/conf2003/index.php.

The UML 2003 conference is in San Francisco, California, USA from the 20 to the 24 of October. See www.umlconference.org/.

If I find out about any other conferences or workshops and the deadline is impending, I'll send out a brief note between newsletters.

Thank you for your time. I hope you find the site useful!
